Update on Volkswagen Diesel Fraud Case

We filed an action in Butte County on May 17, 2018 with the intent of having a jury decide punitive damages. We would be the first party to bring the defeat device case to jury trial.  Peer reviewed studies proved thousands of people with lung diseases died from the fraud.

The Humboldt Echo

The political environment of rural communities creates an unusual effect. Keeping secrets in small communities is maybe impossible. In order for a politician to generate excitement at the local level this means having at least a handful of passionate supporters. At the local level, passionate supporters tend to be personality driven as opposed to cause driven, perhaps due to a mistaken belief all important issues are of national concern. The masses get excited about gun control, or immigration but are apathetic about a local bond or supervisor election.

In order to generate support local politicians must be liked, as a person, by a significant amount of residents. One method to gain trust of supporters is sharing inside information. Sharing secrets and rumors is one of the most common forms of social bonding. The act makes the teller and the listener feel superior to everyone else still in the dark.

But in Humboldt inside information trickles down to the outer limits of the community, at an astonishing speed.  We small communities are really efficient at gossiping.

The same motivating factor that caused the politician to share the secret, also motivated the supporter to share the same information with a trusted friend.  Say, we share information with a trusted friend, who believes he or she also has a trusted friend who could keep a secret, then the next trusted friend also has a trusted friend, and cycle repeats without anyone realizing what is happening.

As a result virtually everything our local politicians say to non-family members is echoed throughout Humboldt.
